As you are opening this email to read, I am deep in packing mode.

Tomorrow I take my first flight in over two years to head out on a solo adventure for five weeks.

I’ll be pet sitting for a dear friend who is on a magical adventure to see The Cure in Ireland (swoon).

For me, staying put in a comfy home with pets to love feels just as magical.

I’m the traveller who scopes out the area long before I land. I’ve found my gluten free bakery, butcher shop, grocery story and the gym well in advance.

I like to become part of the neighbourhood. Living like I’ve always been there with an occasional jaunt into the city.

This may seem boring to some, but to my sensitive soul, it feels like heaven.

No husband, no kids, no distractions. Just me, my imagination, my soul work, and 3 cats and 2 dogs! The perfect setting for magic to unfold.

Plus… think of all the books I will be able to read!!

Speaking of books… here’s the list of books I read in May…

Fiction:

After reading book one in April, I found myself transported back into this world of magic and mayhem by Kevin Hearne. It is very few books that make me laugh out loud, and this author has a knack of making me do that. I mean, with a Hobgoblin that gets high eating salsa, how could it not. I’m excited for book three in this series as I am still left hanging after this book about where the curse came from! I guess I’ll have to wait to find out.

If I told you that this series was about a school built around the moon phases, and that whatever moon phase you were born on would decide what magical abilities you would be learning about; would that be enough to have you running to the bookstore? It would me. Infinite Shores by Pascale Lacelle is book three in a serious that started with Curious Tides and is one of my favourite series of all times. It is an epic fantasy adventure with a book at the heart of it all. One that has the main characters jumping through time and realms. These are a few of my favourite things! Honestly, I haven’t heard of anyone else reading this series, but it is SO GOOD. I ten out of ten recommend.

Oh V.E. Schwab. You have done it again. You never disappoint me and each of your books feel completely different from anything else you write. I’m obsessed with this author. Vicious is book one, Vengeful below is book two and this year Victorious comes out… which is why I picked up this series in the first place. I didn’t want to wait too long for the final pieces of the puzzle to land. To give you an idea of what this series is about, it involves NDE’s opening up “abilities” but removing essential parts of being human. In the first book you learn exactly how this phenomena occurs and meet the two main characters that drive the series.

Then you step into book two and it only gets better. This series gives off Marvel meets Batman meets Alfred Hitchcock vibes. The story moves quickly and jumps from one character perspective to another. Think Magneto and Professor X as the two main characters as they navigate through the dark drama this book holds. Intrigued? It’s good. I inhaled each book in a couple of days.

After all that drama, I wanted something light to read and my friend recommended Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune. What a delightful read this book was. It focuses on a man who has recently passed away and finds himself in a tea shop with the ferryman, who is not what you expect. I laughed, I cried; it was the full gambit of emotions. If love a queer love story set in a teashop with some of the most memorable characters you will ever read, you will love this book.

Non Fiction:

My husband read this book a couple years ago because he adores Rick Rubin and I felt like I could use a hit of creative motivation. Rick Rubin is a music producer who helps bands extract some of their best work. His take on creativity and how to work with it is a spiritual journey with definitive practices to support the process. I enjoyed the book. It wasn’t one of my favourites, but it had some memorable moments. It’s an easy read and if you are an artist in any way, a good support for your work.

I loved this book. It came to me as I was scrolling Facebook Marketplace and got a nudge from my Guides to buy it. It then sat on my shelf for a few months until I felt those same Guides tell me I had to read it. Immediately. Which I did. Robert Moss’s ability to share stories about dreaming and working in the dream state is powerful. If you had asked me if I was a dreamer before reading this book, I would have said no. Now I know I am and am looking forward to exploring this side of my gifts. I highly recommend this book or any book written by Robert Moss. Storytelling is always at the heart of what makes a great book in my world and Robert Moss is expert in this department.

The Seven Sacred Flames isn’t a book, it’s a spiritual journey. One that takes you to the heart of Christ Consciousness. Following the seven meditations, you recalibrate your energy to the divine love of Source creator. I’ve read this book and taught it many times. Last month I did it for my paid membership The Haven. You can access all the videos and meditations HERE. If this book calls to you, don’t order it off Amazon (where it’s listed for over $100). Instead head to Mt Shasta Publishing and order it directly from their website. The amount of LOVE in this book is beyond words. You will feel the Ascendent Masters and Archangels guiding and supporting your every step. One of my most favourite spiritual texts of all times.

It was a good month for reading!

I would say that it wasn’t so good for my hives, but I don’t think that’s true. I’m learning a lot about myself and my body through this process.

Here are some of the things I’ve learned after 10 weeks with hives:

If I do what I hear my body say it needs, things get better.

If I go down a rabbit hole of what to do about my hives, things get worse. It tells my brain to expect things that I don’t think my body would do otherwise.

My body likes sound healing frequencies right now. The more I listen, the less symptomatic I am. I listen to ones for auto immune, nervous system regulation, relief of hives irritation, inflammation. Whatever I feel called to listen to, I do. This makes sense for me because I’m an energy girlie and frequency is everything in my world.

I’ve also learned walking is out. The only two times I’ve gone for hour long strolls are the only two times I’ve got hives on my legs.

That I’m lucky. Hives last a few days in each spot and have a life cycle. Even if they are annoying, they don’t stay that way. Some days I have only a few and some days I have a lot. They tend to come out more near ovulation and my period, or when I’m stressed or exercise.

We know our own bodies. I started this journey a year ago. Things weren’t the way they are now but I knew something was off. I made my first appointment with an allergist last summer and put myself on a year long wait for a gynaecologist. I see them both in July.

That my days don’t change, just my routines. I now do cold compresses, take over the counter meditation twice a day, and put calamine lotion on 3-4 times a day. Doing this is just part of my day now. It’s not good or bad, it just is.

I love my body just as much now as I did when she didn’t have hives.

To help with inflammation, I don’t eat anything out of a bag, box or can right now. It’s increased the amount of time in the kitchen, but has also increased my energy. So in this I’m winning.

Overall, I don’t feel that my life has changed too much. I’m more aware of my body than before.

I also believe my hives are part of a bigger story and that one day I will understand what their message was. Until then I keep showing up, keep listening, and keep doing both my inner and outer work to support them.

In 2016 I was told by my guides that I could read chakras and for the last ten years I have worked with hundreds of people to learn how chakras communicate with us, and how to use what they say in our everyday lives.

Each rotating centre holds powerful messages and when you speak to them, you open yourself up to receive information, guidance and clarity on different areas of your life.

Your chakras is where all your energy blocks reside. By learning to speak to them, you learn to understand what patterns, protections and programs are keeping you stuck in the same cycles in relationships and business. It’s a direct line on what to place your focus on for maximum results.

But first you need to date each other again.

It’s not uncommon to get caught up in life and to detach from what is happening in your body. Work, relationships, a busy schedule, a social life; every day seems filled with a list of to-dos and the first thing to get tossed to the curb is going inwards.

This means that meditation, contemplation, journaling, alone time, nature walks and silence all get forgotten, if they were ever started in the first place.

Who has time to sit with themselves, when there are other life events demanding their attention?

Yet that’s what I’m going to ask you to do.

When you don’t make time for your energy it feels abandoned by you. The very core of who you are is energy. It’s your essence. It is a living force that wants to be seen, heard, and loved.

Think about this idea but instead of chakras, imagine your energy as your most intimate partner.

If you stopped giving attention to your partner, what would happen? Most likely they would feel very hurt and if you continued to ignore them, they would leave.

Obviously your energy would never do that to you. But what your chakras want is to spend time with you so they can tell you how they are feeling.

Which means you need to date them. Yep. You need to woo the crap out of them. Show your chakras that they are important to you. Let them feel heard and appreciated.

They are worth that focused attention. I promise. When you and your energy begin communicating, there isn’t an area of your life that won’t be impacted for the better.

You will learn what is important to you, how you feel inside, and what you genuinely want out of life.

When you begin, close your eyes and focus on each chakra and ask it questions. You may feel the answer, hear the answer in your mind, or be shown a picture. There is no right or wrong way to communicate. You’ll know yours when it happens.

Start at your root chakra. Envision a red ball of energy at the base of your tailbone. Spend time asking questions about safety, security and belonging. Does your root chakra feel safe? Does it feel secure? If it doesn’t, ask more questions. Why doesn’t it feel safe? What can you do to help? If it feels grounded where it is, send it love and move up to the next chakra.

When you focus on your sacral chakra, imagine an orange ball of energy right above your pubis bone. Let the energy come to life there. Ask if it feels seen. If it doesn’t, ask more questions. Why doesn’t it feel seen? Does it feel like you are hiding? If so, why? If it feels turned on, send it love and move on to the next chakra.

Focusing on your solar plexus chakra, which is behind your belly button, sense a yellow ball of energy. Does it feel tight or relaxed? Ask it if it feels as though it is enough. Let the answer flow to you. If your solar plexus doesn’t feel like it is enough, ask it why? Is there somewhere specific where the not enoughness feelings come from? Can you honor what it says? If your solar plexus is rocking, move up to the heart.

When you land on your heart, let the green ball of energy guide you. Ask it if it feels loved. If it doesn’t, ask why it doesn’t feel loved? This may bring up emotions. Let them come up. Can you hold the container for your heart to share its message with you without trying to fix anything? If your heart is radiating love, move to the next chakra.

At the base of your neck, just above your clavicle bones is your throat chakra. Imagine a blue ball of energy sitting there and ask it if it feels heard. If the answer is no, get more curious. Does it feel heard at work? At home? What happens when it doesn’t feel heard? Can you allow your throat chakra to show you how you close down when your voice isn’t acknowledged. If your throat chakra is free flowing, move up to the space between your eyebrows.

Your third eye chakra is on your forehead where a third eye would be. Letting yourself imagine a purple ball of energy rotating there. When you are connected, ask your third eye if it trusts everyone. If it says no, ask if it doesn’t trust spirit, you, or someone else. Let your third eye be specific with you. Ask how you can build more trust with yourself or others. If your third eye is activated, move to the last chakra.

Sitting on the top of your head is the crown chakra. Envision a violet or white ball of energy. Ask this energy if it feels open or closed. If it is closed, ask what it is afraid of. Can you receive the answer without criticizing anything? If your crown chakra is happy, give thanks and finish the meditation.

The key is to be curious. Make getting to know your chakra a conversation. Keep asking questions until you feel like you have fully understood what your chakra is trying to tell you. Once you have talked to each chakra, grab your journal and write out what you received.

This is just a start and as you grow to learn more about each other, the conversations will evolve. Trust what you are receiving. Heck, you may even notice you can sense energies around you after doing this practice for a while.

Now go back to imagining your energy as your intimate partner. How does it feel after being given this much time, attention and focus? How would you feel if someone spent this much time with you?

Not to mention that the side effects are almost always more confidence, clarity, and connection to your authentic voice. Can you say intimacy at full blast?

I guess the only question left to ask is; when is your first date?

It has been a hot minute since I have felt a sense of belonging on a social platform.

Not since Facebook circa 2016.

Back then Facebook felt like a fun place to meet new people, support friends, and read cool posts.

Until it wasn’t.

Then Instagram entered the scene.

Which never felt like home.

As someone who loves to read and write, Instagram felt noisy. My sensitive soul struggled with all the information, colour and lights.

Which left me off social media for the last few years.

I’d go on, try, then leave feeling more hollow then the last time I was there.

Enter Substack.

What started as a crush has developed into a full blown love affair.

The care, community, and ideas are blowing my mind.

I read articles that answer questions I didn’t know I had, articles that offer me new perspectives, and articles that fill me joy (and sometimes tears).

I’m equal parts inspired and awed every day.

Which is why I ported my email list there a few months ago (which is where you are reading this email from), and now my website exists within Substack as well. You can check it out at www.avalonstarlight.com.

It has become my home and it feels so good to have a place to root again.

I’ll share more about what this looks like for me at the end of this email.

But first… these are the books I read in April. A shorter list than most months, but that’s because I’ve been reading so much on Substack! (let me know if you want me to link to some of my favourite articles)

Fiction:

I loved Weyward by Emilia Hart with every cell of my body. It followed one family over multiple centuries, threading the character’s stories through a magical tapestry that left me with shivers on multiple occasions. It spoke to a generational gift passed down through the female lineage, and how that gift influenced three women specifically. The way the author moved from one story line to another, building on each to the passionate end was brilliant. Highly recommend.

Ink and Sigil by Kevin Hearne was a birthday gift for my husband a few year ago. I picked it up because I wanted something light and when Jeff read it, he would laugh out loud beside me in bed. Eventually the curiosity grew and I had to know if it was as funny as he made it out to be. It was. This is a laugh out loud story about a Sigil agent and his motley crew working to save the world from a Fae threat. The off the cuff humour was so absurd that you couldn’t help be left in stitches. If you are looking for a book that is light, fun and hilarious, this book is for you.

Tempest Blade by Danielle L Jenson is book six in a series called The Bridge Kingdom. This series is in my top 10 favourite fantasy series of all times. The character development, plot, and storyline are intricate and deeply woven. If you read the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas, and loved them as much as I did, you will enjoy this series. It has drama, assassins (like I have never read before), war, epic love stories, some spice, and a unique way to tell three different story lines. Plus, it grabs your attention right from page one. A MUST READ.

Non Fiction:

There are books that come into your life at just the right time that change you forever. Return of the Divine Sophia by Tricia McCannon is one of those books for me. It wasn’t just a book, it was an initiation. Simply by readings it, I was changed. Re-arranged on a cellular level. Walking the path of the seasons, you step through the portal of the goddess and are transformed. It’s personal story woven with research woven with ancestral codes. If you feel any call to pick this book up after seeing it, trust that call.

I’ve read Working with the Law by Raymond Holliwell around 5 times now and this is the first time I feel like I got it. Like got it, got it. For the last 6 years everything I have worked on has been mental. Seeing my thoughts, not attaching to my thoughts, witnessing my thoughts. Noticing how my thoughts impact the world around me. Being aware of the spiritual laws and how they impact my thoughts. Reading this book, this time felt like a farewell. If you are struggling with separating from what you think and who you are, this is a great book to read.

I enjoyed Lightworker by Sahvanna Arienta. She did a great job of bringing important information to the reader, however, as with a lot of these books, I wanted to know her more. She shared quite a bit, yet the book still read more like a textbook then a personal story with important information. This isn’t wrong, it’s just not my personal favourite. I love a book ripe with vulnerability and message. Did the book make me want to get a reading from her, yes. Did I learn anything new, no. If you are at the beginning stages of your lightworker journey, you may find this book a good companion to explain some of the things you are experiencing.

As I said, this wasn’t a typical month of reading for me.

At the beginning of April I signed up to do a 6 week Accelerator with after signing up for her group Homeward in March.

They say when you are ready to expand the teacher will appear, and for the month of April Amber was all about showing us how to build our businesses on Substack.

It has been both exhilarating and terrifying.

So much so that I broke out in hives. My nervous system so overwhelmed by the expansion that it has forced all the old material out of my body in tiny, itchy red bumps.

Which I can say have finally disappeared. At least for the last 24 hours!

It’s been a journey!

For two more weeks, these lives will be for everyone.

Then they will be in The Haven, a space for the spiritually inclined and those with spiritual gifts to explore what they are capable of.

This month in The Haven we will also be working through the 7 Sacred Flames by Aurelia Louise Jones. I will be dropping voice notes and meditations to open everyone up to their team of Ascended Masters! I’m SUPER excited for this.

About a month ago I was on a client call and explained that my ego sends reinforcements in waves.

Whenever I expand or do something that my ego thinks is going to be dangerous, I can tell you exactly what’s going to happen and in what order.

Since having this conversation with my client, I’ve opened up my awareness to notice the same pattern, just different, in my husband.

Learning your own body and mind is truly the path to freedom, and I’m hoping today’s article can shed some light on just how to do that.

The Activation

For the sake of this article I’m going to use myself as the example, while weaving in my husband (with his permission of course).

An activation is when you decide to do something that your brain and body feels is a threat. You hire a coach, decide to go to an open mic night to share your poetry, you think about sharing your first article on Substack, you join a local book club, you start a new dance class.

Whenever you bump against the boundary of what is familiar and safe, you will activate a safety mechanism in your body. This works great for real threats, like bears, but can really damper stepping into a life that feels expansive and joyful.

Recently, I stepped back into a coaching container after taking a four year hiatus, and this activated a fear response in my body.

Even though I feel safe with this coach. Even though it’s in service of my soul work. Even though I know it’s exactly where I’m meant to be.

My ego can’t tell the difference between what is a real threat (bears) and what is a growth edge (coaching). All it knows is that I’m doing something new and that means I could be in danger.

The First Wave

The first thing my ego does when I push against a familiar boundary, is it attacks my body. Aggressively and without holding back.

It feels like standing in front of the meanest trolls on the internet and letting them have a hay day.

Cruel statements like, “you’re fat, old and ugly” bombard my mind. My sun spots, crooked teeth, and soft center becoming weapons to make me shrivel and disappear.

For my husband, his first wave is to become a victim to his circumstances. It’s the systems fault. It’s rigged and ‘the man’ is responsible for making life such a miserable place to be.

The first wave is meant to halt you in your tracks. Paralyze you into staying exactly where you are. It’s very convincing and will use the tactic that has worked the best in the past.

Note: the ego is not bad. It’s protecting you. We are hardwired to seek safety and that is what it believes it is doing. Keeping you from danger.

That’s why it is so important to learn yourself. To take time to notice what your thoughts are doing. The more you know the different ways your ego tries to protect you, the faster you can “swipe left” past each wave, and come to place a neutrality within yourself.

The Second Wave

When I’ve seen and acknowledged the first wave. Letting my body know I love and adore her and I’m proud of the life she has lived, my ego moves on to the second wave.

An activation triggers an old story or pattern that is meant to be looked at. This does not mean you have to stay in the emotion, but knowing you have brought something up in one of your chakras to unpack is important to know.

When I decided to go back into coaching, all the trauma from the last container came up for me to process. That is uncomfortable work, so during the second wave, my ego projects that discomfort on the person I am closest to. My husband.

It’s at this moment that everything my husband is doing is wrong. He is breathing wrong, eating wrong, looking at life wrong, husbanding wrong. The list goes on and on.

For my husband, this wave is when he feels like all hope is lost. He is filled with the ‘why bothers”. It’s pointless to do anything or try anything because everything is hopeless and the system sucks.

Note: the work is not to stop the thoughts. They are always going to be there. The work is become faster at recognizing them and “swiping left” to the next wave as quickly as we can.

It’s here that I realize I’m avoiding myself and will journal, go for a walk, or phone a friend to help me work through the emotions that have come up. If I don’t, them I will move into the third wave.

The Third Wave

After attacking myself, then attacking my husband, my ego uses addiction to distract me away from my emotions.

Things that will feel like they are helpful or doing good, but actually keep me from processing the emotion I activated in the beginning.

This is when I notice all the emptying jars of make up, cream, supplements, and my dwindling TBR pile on my bookshelf. It becomes VERY important that I restock everything.

Since I don’t drink anymore, shopping is how I numb myself from my emotions.

This is the wave where I will lose myself on Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, health food sites or seeking any other form of outward dopamine.

My ego will convince me that these things are celebrating my growth; that I’m honouring my journey; but what it won’t say is that it will come at the cost of my financial stability.

This is the same wave my husband has, except his addiction is video games. He could lose days, weeks and his evenings to gallivanting around a mystical castle looking for clues to up-level his avatar instead of himself.

Note: This wave is about numbing ourselves away from the discomfort through outside distractions and addictions. Shopping, food, exercise, drinking, over working, are all examples, however you will know your version of this best.

The Fourth Wave

This is the wave that is the most sly. It is the way we use our unconscious mind to halt us in our tracks. It’s our self sabotaging pattern played out into real time.

You may have processed the emotion behind your activation, but if you still feel unsafe unconsciously, you may still experience this wave.

In the past this has looked like me blowing up a part of my business. I’ll move everything to a new platform, close a social media account completely (like wipe it out wipe it out), or I’ll think I need something to help me grow that I don’t. This will keep me so busy I won’t have time to feel the emotion, plus it will keep me from being seen and growing my business.

Other ways self sabotage shows up is we get sick, someone in our life gets sick, our roof starts leaking, the car breaks down, an infestation of squirrels will appear in our walls, the list goes on and on.

Since signing up to work with (my coach) I’ve broken out in hives. This is my bodies way of trying to keep me from showing up to do the work. It’s an outside event that is so uncomfortable that if I allowed it, could convince me to stay where I am.

Each time I shift, this event will look different. It will for you as well.

For my husband it will come in the form of his computer acting up or our dog getting hurt. As a musician, his computer is his studio and if I’m being honest, my husband loves animals more than humans. This makes our dog a perfect way to stop him in his tracks.

Note: the ego thinks it’s helping, even when it’s throwing something down on our path that feels really big. It’s important that you don’t turn on yourself, even your ego, and make any part of you wrong. What is happening happens to all of us, it’s part of being human.

Riding the Waves

By choosing to look at the waves of your ego, you are placing your awareness on your thoughts. This is such an important part of learning yourself.

It’s separating yourself from the thoughts themselves, and letting yourself observe them instead.

You may notice that during your first wave you judge yourself and others, criticizing their weight, clothes, or life choices.

You may become aware that during the second wave you stop doing your self care practices, making you so overwhelmed and stressed by life that removing yourself from your growth edge is the only option.

You may see that during one of your waves you make others responsible for your success. Expecting someone to come in and “fix” you and your business.

None of these thoughts are wrong. That’s important to state here.

Your beautiful ego learned young that staying safe was important, so it learned ways to ensure you were.

What a gift that was.

As you begin to push the boundaries of what’s possible in your life, you want to be in relationship with your ego. Seeing it for what it is. A protector.

There are a few ways you can ride the waves of your thoughts without attaching to them.

First is to “swipe left”. This is a simple hand gesture that pushes the thoughts away, allowing new ones in. You can do this in your mind, or physically. The idea is that you see the thoughts come in like a Tinder dating site. If the thought doesn’t feel good to you, swipe it away. It can be that simple.

The second way you can ride the waves of your ego is to give your ego a name. My ego is named Becky.

When I wake up in the morning and Becky wants to tell me how terrible I am, how fat my stomach looks, or that I will never be successful, I can place my feet on the floor and ask Becky to be quiet.

I can lovingly say, “I haven’t even had my coffee yet Becky, can you hold your thoughts until I’m a little more awake”.

Or if I’m having trouble falling asleep because my mind is racing, I can imagine Becky as a little girl who won’t fall asleep.

I can lovingly take her hand, walk her to her bedroom in my mind, and put her back in bed. If she gets up again, I simply put her back in bed. Again and again until my mind settles.

This shifts my awareness away from being my thoughts, and gives space for new thoughts to come through.

Because the truth is, you are not your ego thoughts.

You are the amazing human who is having those thoughts.

And they are not the same thing.

When I learned I was an empath in my early thirties it was a relief.

Up until that point I had been picking up on other people’s energy and thinking their energy was mine. So much so that I had to lie down after grocery shopping (it was exhausting), couldn’t go into crowds without drinking (to quiet the energetic noise), and believed that everyone from high school hated me (they hated themselves and I thought it was me).

Just by giving a name to what I was experiencing felt like the puzzle piece I was missing.

Once I knew I was an empath, I got to work.

I read countless books on energy, empaths, and highly sensitive people. I sought out mentors who could teach me how to use my gifts. I became certified as an angel card reader and began speaking to Spirit.

In 2017 I downloaded I could read chakras and I’ve been an energy healer ever since.

What I remember most about those early years was how weird I felt.

No one in my life at that time knew what an empath was and if they did, they had a very negative perception of it.

Which left me feeling like a ship a sea without a paddle.

It wasn’t until I brought everything up with my therapist that a door opened for me to begin my training.

When I told her I was seeing life in high definition, speaking to my dead grandfather in meditation, and hearing voices, she looked happy.

Apparently she knew I had these gifts and was waiting for me to know too!

Once I did, she took me under her wing and began training me and a few others. It was the scariest and most enlightening time of my life.

We were teachers, mothers, chefs, therapists - all experiencing extra sensory perceptions.

In this group I felt normal. We spoke about light energy, dark energy, emotions, energy protection, energy clearing, different types of energy work, vibrational energy, and so much more.

Having a group of people who not only understood what I was experiencing, but were also having their own unique experiences was awesome. It made what could have been considered a mental health breakdown a spiritual revelation.

Which brings me to The Haven.

What I learned from my therapist bringing a group of us together was how important it is to have a space to learn, grow and expand our spiritual gifts.

One that fosters a sense of community and acceptance. Where speaking about energy, psychic gifts, and the mystical is normal.

A place to practice.

A place to feel inspired.

A place where there are others learning to work with their gifts too.

A spiritual haven.
